Before you go
- A permit is required to hike past Scout Lookout. It costs $6 to apply in the lottery and $3 per person if you win one.
- Hike to Scout Lookout without a permit and turn around there if you do not have one.
- Hold the chains, give other hikers room, and turn back in wet, icy, or windy weather.
- Trails and roads close for rockfall, floods, and ice. Check NPS current conditions the morning you go.
- Carry plenty of water. NPS recommends at least one gallon per person per day.
